One of our best clients is looking for Operations Manager to start working recently.

Main Duties:

To manage a stevedoring division with multiple staff, Multiple customers, and machinery/equipment
To liaise with customers, super-cargo’s, vessel crew, Port Terminals and private operators supervising the vessels in order to ensure a productive operation
To plan and manage the effective utilization of labour and equipment/machinery
Staff training and development
Visits vessels ensuring that the operation is being performed safely and effectively
To take a proactive approach to ensure a cost-effective service to the client
To attend daily meetings on vessels
To attend to staff meetings (shop stewards’ meetings / SHE Committee meetings)
General administration i.e., accident/incident reports, written communication with clients.
To manage the ship and shore operations to achieve planned productivity levels and to ensure efficient utilization of available resources within laid-down financial parameters.

Main Requirements:

Must have minimum of a matric (Grade 12) level of education
Tertiary qualification or studying towards a tertiary qualification, in a shipping or related field – an advantage.
Must be computer literate (Word, Excel, e-mail)
Must have minimum 3-5 years proven operational experience within a stevedoring / lashing environment
A sound knowledge of the planning, stowing, discharging, lashing & securing of cargo on break-bulk and bulk vessels
Proven financial and administrative experience
Must be prepared to work shift work and duty weekends
Visible initiative and drive (proactive & lead by example)
Must have a sound knowledge of relevant quality working standards and safe working procedures as well as the requirements of the Health and Safety legislation (National Port Act / OHS Act / Maritime Occupational Health and Safety Act)
Sound Industrial Relations knowledge, i.t.o. the requirements of Labour Legislation and HR procedures
Must have sound communication and interpersonal skills
Must have valid code 8 driver’s license.
